All that glitters is from Neiman Marcus

Wouldn’t you like a Lexus for Christmas? Imagine yourself in high performance heaven in a 2008 Lexus IS F Special Build Sedan which delivers over 400 heart-pounding horsepower and 350 lb-feet of torque from the 5.0-liter V-8. The envious faces of neighbors blur as you zoom by from 1 to 60 in under 4.9 seconds. If you feel the need for speed, the perfect Christmas gift for you is this car from the Marcus Neiman Fantasy Gift collection-priced at only $68,000.

Neiman Marcus, which celebrates its 100th year anniversary, became known for its publicity coups during the 1950’s. The press and public came to expect extraordinary gifts from the company each year and in 1959 brothers Stanley and Edward Marcus’s brainstorm produced an unusual idea: a Black Angus steer, delivered on the hoof or in steaks, complete with a silver-plated serving cart. People were impressed and the “His & Hers” gifts gained fame the following year with a pair of Beechcraft airplanes for about $170,000.

The most expensive item ever offered was an unfinished Boeing Business Jet which was priced at over $35 million. The cars themselves have become a tradition as each year a highly anticipated luxury automobile is showcased in the Christmas Book. The BMW Z3 roadster started it off in 1995 and the cars have sold out each year, often in the first 24 hours of availability.

Over the years, there have been many extravagant yet functional gifts worthy of the Marcus Neiman name. Unique Christmas Book items have included a $20 million submarine, mummy cases with actual mummies, seats from Ebbets Field, and a mermaid suit that could be used while swimming. Items from the “His & Hers” list have included hot air balloons, Chinese junks, camels, robots, Jaguars (the car), and a Dinosaur Safari.

There are many wonderful gifts including those for under a few hundred dollars and of course the famous “Fantasy Gifts.” This year’s list includes a Monarch Airplane, a Chocolate Portrait, a Classical Concert, an Interactive Touch Media Wall, a Montana Getaway and a Dragon Topiary, ot mention just a few!
